The 2001 F1 season saw Jacques run with the Lucky Strike BAR Honda team. Jacques had two podium finishes in Spain and Germany and finished the season 7th in the Drivers’ Championship.
This helmet has an incredible pedigree as it is photo-matched to three Grand Prix weekends as well as a test session. The Bell helmet, a K1 model, is labeled “Bell 2001-12 painting S.P.O.R.T.S. Europe Bell” and has both the French and British flags on the back signifying the French and British GP’s.
The helmet has a couple of very distinctive features that have made it easy to photo match. Jacques has a habit of using extra eye-port foam and then using heli-tape to compress it in certain areas. That tape collects dirt and rubber from the track that can been seen and is very noticeable in photo matches from both the July 1st French Grand Prix as well as the British GP held on July 15th. Jacques then takes the helmet with him to Hungary were he applies chrome decals to the top of the helmet in an attempt to deflect heat before using the helmet in a Saturday practice session for the Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring Circuit in Budapest. The helmet then makes one last appearance a couple days later as it is photo-matched to a test session in Imola, Italy from August 21-24.
The helmet shows very nice wear with a number of rubber smears, paint chips and bug marks from extensive use. The helmet is still equipped with the radio and a couple of tear-offs still remain on the visor. Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. 2001-13” handwritten annotations.
The helmet is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
