Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015

The late LeRoy Neiman and the great Wayne Gretzky have each signed this fantastic 1994 “Gretzky’s Goal” limited-edition framed serigraph by the renowned artist. Neiman, who died in 2012, had a gift for capturing the essence of sport in his expressionist paintings and he magically captured the Great One’s 802nd goal, which broke Gordie Howe’s NHL record, with this magnificent interpretation. This particular example is special, as it was originally from the regular 385 limited-edition set(67/385), but it’s now been remade as a very limited-edition of 4 by the NHLPA with this example given to Kirk McLean and the other 3 to Bruce McNall, the LA Kings and to Wayne Gretzky. An NHLPA seal and "1/4" limited-edition number appear in the center, with signatures from every player on the print, exclusive to that edition, including Gretzky himself all signed in dark ink, with just Neiman having signed in pencil. Other players who have signed are Trevor Linden, Marty McSorley, Gerald Diduck, Kirk McLean and Luc Robitaille. The print itself measures 35” x 42” and it’s been framed to larger dimensions of 44” x 52”. In beautiful condition overall, the frame shows a few dings and some light wear, but this does nothing to infringe on this amazing piece of artwork.
