Mario Lemieux was big and strong but rarely had to bully his way through defenders, sending them flying instead with deft fakes and dekes. In him, the attributes of the pure scorer and the playmaker were fused and his size, reach and balance made his end-to-end rushes seem effortless. Offered is this wonderful white, black and gold Pittsburgh Penguins home uniform worn by team captain Mario Lemieux during the 1990-91 NHL season. Lemieux's surname crosses the back shoulders above the historic double-sixes and his captain's "C" adorns the left breast. This example is a CCM knit in with the Maska Ultrafil tag in the collar and "66" noted in fading black marker ink. Two team repairs show up on the right arm with three more over on the opposite sleeve. In winning the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP, Lemieux scored 16 goals and added 28 assists for 44 points in the playoffs. This jersey is video-matched to game wear in each Home Games 3, 4 and 6 (series clincher) of the 1991 Wales Conference Final against Boston. Notably, there is a photo-match to Lemieux celebrating his empty netter in the final minute that sealed the Pens first ever trip to the Finals. To think this is the jersey he was wearing when he knew that he would finally play for Lord Stanley's Cup! Video-matching is clearly visible in each home game of that third round using repaired holes and multiple stick marks, in addition this jersey has the clearly visible smaller, "gold toe" team crest and absence of the NHL shield on hem clearly evidenced. Making this jersey even more extraordinary is the Stanley Cup Finals patch added to make it ready for use in the final round, although it did not see any action in Cup Final. Lemieux's black away jersey from the earlier rounds was similarly patched as a back-up. Marks turn up in game action a number of times including: a horizontal black mark on the right arm in white band area, a black mark on left hem near the waist, black mark on the left arm to the lower right of the second number 6, and an unrepaired hole on the left arm below the 66. The spectacular shirt has numerous repairs and stick marks on both sleeves and throughout. Comes complete with a letter of authenticity from Casey Samuelson of Penguins Chronicles and DVDs of the home games (3, 4 & 6) that detail the matches. Wow! Please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
