Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Awesome offering is Ed Belfour’s 2007-08 Swedish Hockey League Leksands IF game-worn mask from the HOF goalie’s last professional season. Eddie the Eagle posted a 2.09 goals-against-average and a startling seven shutouts in 29 games in his Swedish swan song with Leksands. Strikingly similar to the look of Belfour’s masks with the Maple Leafs, this gorgeous gamer has Ed’s trademark eagles gracing each side while his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design over the chin is replaced by the Leksands hockey team logo. Game wear shows in chips on the chin, black marks over the right ear, and red paint transfer on the back edge of the left ear. Comes with its Warwick zippered carrying bag and Ed Belfour’s signed LOA.
“Custom made by Warwick Mask & Equipment Ed Belfour” is handwritten in silver paint pen inside the right ear below the Warwick company sticker. Silver paint pen inscription handwritten inside the back left of the mask reads, “#B57 Ed Belfour Pro Style Titanium Cat-Eye Cage, Carbon Fiber Kevlar Composite Mask Shell.” All interior padding is present including added Velcro for the cloth forehead accessory, which is not included.
The back head-piece has custom graphics showcasing a 1941 Willys for Ed’s racing company, named after his hometown of Carman, Manitoba hometown and also has the “Make-a-Wish Foundation” logo. The backplate’s dual-colour strapping is designed to coincide with the placement of the custom graphics.
The letter combination "IF" in the Leksands team name and logo is short for "idrottsförening", which is the Swedish word for sports association.
