Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
A dual gold-medal winner for Team Canada, Ed backed-up Martin Brodeur and Curtis Joseph at the 2002 Winter Olympics. This Warwick custom-crafted mask was made for Ed Belfour for the tournament, which included him on the bench for one game as back-up, as well as wearing the mask for practices. The interior padding is present including cloth forehead accessory, as well as all strapping. The manufacturer’s decals remain affixed to the interior, with added handwritten notations by the maker Warwick and the artist Ray Bishop. Ed’s trademark eagles grace each side, with maple leafs throughout, which includes the Olympic rings on the back head piece along with “2002”. With gorgeous vibrant colours present and stunning graphics, the mask remains in beautiful condition. An LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany this lot.
There is a chip in the bottom corner of the left ear section, along with light wear to the edge of the chin, as well as a dark mark on the top of the head section near the back. As mentioned, with Ed’s role primarily as back-up, the mask was only worn for practices.
