Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Named after the NHL’s inaugural president and first presented to Syl Apps at the conclusion of the 1936-37 NHL season, the Calder Memorial Trophy is awarded annually "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League”. Earning rookie of the year honours with his especially successful first season that included winning the Vezina and William Jennings trophies along with being selected to the All-Rookie Team, we have the “Rookie of the Year” award that was presented to the HOF netminder by The Sporting News. At approx 12” in height and featuring a well-detailed 4” medallion with mounted players in relief set within plexiglass with a sloping reverse, a 3 ½” x 7 ½” plaque sits over the dark-coloured base, with the particulars engraved including “1990-91 NHL Rookie of the Year”, “Ed Belfour” and “Chicago Black Hawks”. The award remains in excellent condition, with light wear and a minor ding to the plaque (we should note that the two-way tape affixing the plaque to the base has dried out, with the plaque currently detached). A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany.
