Alexander the Gr8 was the goal-scoring king of the NHL in the second half of the 2000s with a total of 269 goals in his first five seasons with the Washington Capitals. Ovechkin won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year with 52 goals and 54 assists for 106 points in his debut and scored at least 46 goals every season from 2005-06 through 2009-10, when he recorded four 50-goal campaigns. Offered are a pair of Ovi’s game-used sticks from that era, including his circa 2007-08 CCM Vector. That season Ovechkin became the 12th player to score at least 65 goals in a season, and the first since Mario Lemieux scored 69 with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995-96. “Ovi 8” is stamped on the shaft of Alex’s CCM Vector10 game-used stick that retains his original tape jobs on the blade and knob, which features red grip tape with a wrap of blue vinyl tape at the bottom. Solid game wear shows in puck marks on both sides of the white tape job on the blade and paint chips low on the shaft. Ovechkin’s late-2000s Bauer One95 game-used stick has “Ovie 8” factory graphics on the shaft and its original tape jobs on the blade and knob, which features a dark blue grip tape wrap with Alex’s number “8” handwritten on the front below the tiny knob. Game wear includes black puck marks on both sides of the tape job on the blade, marks on the untaped heel, and small paint chips on the shaft.
