Born in Pennsylvania in 1898, sculptor Alexander Calder is best known for creating a form of kinetic sculpture known as mobiles, and they rely on the principals of equilibrium and depend on motion to achieve their desired affect. His mobiles and stabiles (Calder’s stationary sculptures) grace buildings worldwide. This Unesco postcard features the Place Fontenoy in Paris with an image of a mobile sculpture in situ created by Calder. With stamps and postmarks affixed, Calder has signed the postcard with a large and beautiful pen signature of just “Calder”. The postcard itself is in very good condition with a few small corner creases, and it’s accompanied by a JSA LOA as well as an additional COA from R&R Enterprises.
