Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Since Canada’s Confederation in 1867, there have been 22 Prime Ministers that have held office. This patriotic collection features signatures from 6 of those past leaders, and with the exception of Joe Clark, all are deceased. Included are Sir Wilfred Laurier (PM from 1896-1911), Mackenzie King (PM from 1921-26, 1926-30, 1935-48), Louis St. Laurent (PM from 1948-57), John Diefenbaker (PM from 1957-63), Lester B. Pearson (PM from 1963-68) and Joe Clark (PM from 1979-80). This historic grouping will fit nicely into even the most advanced collection of Canadiana. Comes with a JSA auction LOA.
The breakdown for the 6 signatures from former Canadian Prime Ministers are as follows;
1 – Sir Wilfrid Laurier. Signature cut mounted to a folded 8” x 10” Privy Council of Canada Letterhead dated 1900. The signature is excellent and scripted in fountain pen, and it shows some discolouation due to glue on the reverse. A notation below that’s contemporary mentions Laurier with “Premier of the Dominion of Canada”.
2 – Mackenzie King. Signature cut mounted to what appears to be an old 3 ½” x 5 ½” autograph book page. Scripted in fountain pen and in beautiful condition, a “House of Commons - Leader of the Opposition” fragment with coat of arms has been affixed above the signature.
3 – Louis St. Laurent. Signed on the 7 ½” x 10 ½” mount of a photo of Laurent, the signature is dark and has a dedication “Cordial greetings to Mr. M.W. Espy”, and its dated April 1961.
4 – John Diefenbaker. 5” x 7” photo signed below the image in ball point and dated 1979. The photo and signature are excellent, and it’s accompanied by a House of Commons envelope with Diefenbaker’s facsimile signature.
5 – Lester B. Pearson. Signed in blue ball point on a 4 page typed House of Commons excerpt regarding the United Nation and dated November 27th 1957. The excerpt and signature remain in excellent condition with no flaws.
6 – Joe Clark. Signed 8” x 10” photo of Clark in black marker, with the photo and signature excellent.
