Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The first overall draft pick by the fledgling Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1976 NFL Draft, Lee Roy Selmon had previously spent his formative college years with Oklahoma, leading the Sooners to national championships in both 1974 and 1975. This helmet was worn by the defensive end in his rookie era with the Buccaneers in the mid-1970s. A Riddell model with all padding and strapping intact, matching Bucs decals grace each side, with the outline visible on the reverse of Selmon’s familiar #63. Nice use is exhibited on the head gear, with a number of marks, scratches and abrasions present, with additional wear to the face mask, especially along the upper portions. Selmon would see enshrinement in both the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
