Jacques Villeneuve made the decision to leave the powerful Williams Renault F-1 Team in order to work with Craig Pollock at the British American Racing (BAR) Formula One team for their inaugural 1999 season.
The season was very trying for Jacques and the team as he failed to finish the first 11 Grand Prix’s of the season and had a best result of 8th at the Italian Grand Prix. This Bell Dominator helmet painted by Bell S.P.O.R.T.S. Europe and tagged “98-19” was likely one of the first helmets Bell made for Jacques to test the new BAR Supertec 01.
The helmet has all of Jacques’ customizations; the vents are partially closed-off, extra eye-port foam is present and the full radio remains intact. The helmet shows very light use both inside and out, it is likely that this helmet saw very little to no use in testing.
There are two unused tear-offs remaining on the visor with the top one signed by Villeneuve. Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “J.V. 98-19” handwritten annotations with the handwritten “19” in black instead of a crossed-off “18”. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
