Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Jacques Villeneuve had just finished winning the F1 World Championship but a new season was starting and there was work to do as Williams F1 was leaving Renault and using a customer based Mecachrome V-10 engine in the new Williams FW20 chassis.
This Bell Dominator helmet, painted by Bell SPORTS Europe and tagged 98-2 was used in early season testing of the new car and engine. The helmet has a few chips in the paint that can be photo-matched to winter testing on Jan 22, 1998 in Barcelona, Spain. As with most of Jacques’ helmets the sponsor logos are stickers applied on top of the paint so they can be changed if need be, this helmet had the original “Williams” replaced as well team sponsor “Fujitsu” has been added to the sides. This was most likely done, as the helmet would have been used in later test sessions when these sponsors had signed on. The helmet shows nice wear with a number of small chips on the front of the helmet. Jacques has covered over the front air vents with heli-tape and the full radio still remains intact.
This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
