Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Gordie Howe’s famous No. 9 in sewn-on white twill sits on the left sleeve of Mr. Hockey’s Detroit Red Wings alumni jacket that comes with a letter of provenance. The signed letter, which is dated July 1999, indicates that Gordie’s red nylon windbreaker with the Red Wings Alumni patch on the left breast and a size L flag tag was obtained from Carl Liscombe, who won the Stanley Cup with Detroit in 1943. Liscombe, who wore No. 7 with the Red Wings, ended up with Howe’s jacket at the end of an alumni meeting and Gordie ultimately told him to keep it. Very nicely preserved with some light stains to the felt and canvas sewn-on Red Wings alumni patch, the lightweight, button-front jacket is an eye-catcher with that number on the sleeve!
A 1999 sales receipt is included with the letter of provenance.
