Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
The template against which all other hockey players are measured, Mr. Hockey isn’t just a nickname for Gordie Howe, but more of a description. Seeing action in 5 different decades, Howe is still third on the list for all-time points. This magnificent sculpture of the legend stands a majestic 36”, making it a desirable half life-size representation. Produced in 1996, the hollow sculpture was made employing the “cold cast bronze process”, and is made up of a mix of resin and bronze powder. Mounted to a marble-like base, “5/75” is inscribed on the bottom portion of the jersey - showing its edition is limited, and “Acon 96” also appears nearby.
In excellent condition with just the lightest wear to the surface, the base has a plaque adhered stating the sculpture’s formal name, “Mr. Hockey”. With removable hockey stick and detailed Red Wings crest, this artwork by sculptor Gary Aldcorn will please even the most fickle of collectors. Additional documentation will accompany.
