Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
This absolutely gorgeous 1950s Red Wings team jacket conjures up wonderful memories of Detroit’s Stanley Cup dynasty led by Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe. One of the greatest to ever lace them up, Gordie was surrounded with HOF talent that included the likes of goalie Terry Sawchuk, left wing Ted Lindsay and defensemen Red Kelly and Marcel Pronovost. Magnificent team crest sewn on the left breast features the team name in red and white cable stitching embroidery on a white felt background. More fabulous embroidery is evidenced in the American and Canadian crossed flags patch sewn on the left sleeve of this button-front, lined beauty. Olympic Sporting Goods and size 42 tagging are sewn inside the right front pocket. Nicely preserved button front jacket exhibits justifiably proud wear.
The knit cuffs and waistband are hole-free while the knit collar has a few holes from wear along the right side of the top edge. There are a couple of holes, likely from wear, through the fabric of the bottom of the left sleeve near the elbow. The lining remains whole with a few holes, again likely from wear, along the collar seam. There is faint handwriting in the back of the neck that is illegible.
