Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
A fine threesome of signed hardcover hockey books up for grabs here that includes a 1938 edition of “Hockey, Fastest Game on Earth” by HOFer Mervyn (Red) Dutton (ind. 1958, dec. 1967), who played for the Maroons and Americans before eventually becoming league president (succeeded by Clarence Campbell). Signed in black ink fountain pen and dedicated as “To a real pal & a great fellow whom I do not want to be critical”, the 196-page book with dust jacket and plastic protection remains in good condition with slight wear. Joining this is legendary broadcaster Foster Hewitt’s 1967 “Foster Hewitt, His Own Story”, a 120-pager without the dust jacket, signed on the inside by HOFer Foster (ind. 1965, dec. 1985) in beautiful blue ballpoint pen, with the book in excellent condition. And lastly, the 1983 “Hockey Heritage 88 Years of Puck Chasing in Saskatchewan”, a 428-pager with a 1” tear on the dust jacket, signed inside in clear blue ballpoint pen by both Nick and Don Metz, dedicated “To Marv”. Nick spent 12 seasons in the NHL with the Leafs from 1934 to 1948, winning 4 Stanley Cups along the way, while Don was with the Leafs from 1938 to 1949 and hoisted the Cup 5 times.
