Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
The Minnesota North Stars may be long gone but the NHL’s first team in the State of Hockey will never be forgotten. Goalie Gilles Meloche’s game-used stick and forward Lou Nanne’s game-issued stick are each covered with autographs from members of their late-1970s North Stars teams. Meloche’s 1979-80 North Stars team-signed Sherwood goalie stick has “27 G. Meloche” stamped on the shaft and “Minnesota North Stars November – 1979” handwritten in black marker on the back of the upper shaft below Gilles’ thick white tape knob. Meloche signed in ballpoint at the bottom of the tape job, while the rest of the 19 signatures are along the shaft including the likes of Bobby Smith, Steve Payne, Tom McCarthy, Al MacAdam, Tom Younghans, Tim Young, Craig Hartsburg, Brad Maxwell, Kris Manery, Mike Polich, Paul Shmyr and Fred Barrett, among others. Meloche’s tape jobs on the paddle and blade also remain, with lots of wear to the latter at the heel and on the bottom edge of the toe, with some loose strands. More game wear shows in red goalpost paint transfer on the back of the shaft. “Nanne” is stamped on the both sides of the shaft of Lou’s Northland game-issued stick with a “5054” stamp for the registered pattern number. “Good luck, Lou Nanne” at the top of the shaft is the first of 14 vintage North Stars ballpoint autographs along the back of the shaft including the likes of Tom Younghans, Fred Barrett, Pete LoPresti, Glen Sharpley, Dean Talafous, Ron Zanussi, Harvey Bennett, Tim Young and Brad Maxwell, among others.
