Trained entirely in the Soviet Union, Sergei Makarov shined internationally winning eight World Championships while representing Russia. This Russian National Team CCCP captain’s jersey was game-worn by Makarov circa 1988-89. Images from an October 1989 program for a two game exhibition series between the Czechs and CCCP shows images of Russian National team players wearing that type of jersey (images would be from earlier and most likely from the 1988-89 season) and that according to research they changed to a different style of jersey for the 1989-90 season. With "Kisapukuoy" and size "L 54-56" tagging in the collar, there’s also an additional “Made in Finland” tag. With screened-on name on nameplate (in English) as well as screened-on numbers and CCCP logo as well as loosely sewn-on captain's "K", the jersey is mesh with durene sleeve stripes and lower band. Game-wear is noticeable with a number of board burns on both elbows with resulting small holes, as well as some black stick marks on the left sleeve, and some paint transfer around both elbow areas. Sergei has also added a nice black marker signature above the CCCP team crest, and it bled into the fabric somewhat over time.
