Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Big binder of individual player photos and pictures here will be a treat for Bruins historians to leaf through, with the highlight reel led by (16) pictures on paper stock which came inserted in Boston programs in circa-1933. Legends Shore, Clapper and Nels Stewart lead the lineup, with the first two also starring, along with Brimsek, Cowley, Schmidt and others, in a wondrous (1960-61) set of 10 All-Time All-Stars, depicted masterfully in artwork by Tex Coulter. Most of rest are from the mid-1950s to the mid-’60s and include both real photographs of various sizes, (5 x 7, 8 x 10) and paper pictures, with the likes of Sawchuk, Bucyk, Boivin, McKenney, Mohns, Flaman, Stasiuk, Labine, Oliver, Johnston and Green among the more notable or plentiful. More details about these intriguing images are available on our website.
There is duplication in the aforementioned pictures from the 1930s, which read “Supplement to Boston Garden Hockey Magazine” in the bottom border, with doubles of Shore, Clapper, Harry Oliver, Alex Smith and Mary Barry, the latter without the line at the bottom and believed to be from ’32-33. Biographical information was written in pencil on the backs of five pictures which measure approximately 7-1/2” by 9-1/2”. The Tex Coulter prints on paper stock are about 8” by 8” square, come with their original envelope and are completed by depictions of Tiny Thompson, Babe Siebert, Jack Crawford, Bill Quackenbush and Fleming Mackell – superb! Terry Sawchuk leads 17 paper stock (6-1/2” x 8”) pictures from ’55-56 and is also amongst 12 duplicates. There are 14 different similar-size pictures from ’58-59, with doubles also present, and 16 from ’62-63. Eleven glossy 8” by 10” real photos from ’57-58 are beauties, as are 14 similar from various years. Completing are eight 5” by 7” photos from the ‘60s and a few other miscellaneous pictures. Great stuff!
