Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
An instant and extensive collection of Crown Brand photos from the 1930s awaits the high bidder here, with the complete set comprised of individual shots of Montreal Canadiens and Maroons players, along with a few stars from other teams and a dozen desirable team photos. Condition is generally attractive, with photos well-placed on beige backings, the majority of which exhibit only light corner wear. A minority of the mats include light creasing and we spot some re-glued pictures, with photos likely not seen by many hobbyists including a coveted King Clancy example and three Father Levesque pee-wee group shots. Howie Morenz, Aurele Joliat, Toe, Babe, Ace and others - they're all here! Canadiens (5) and Maroons (3) team photos and that of Canada's 1936 Olympic team are other highlights, with more important individual condition details available on our website.
A one-inch light wrinkle/crease in the beige backing of the Clancy, below the number “111” is to mention, with the three aforementioned Father Levesque pee-wee photo ensembles in stellar/impressive near mint condition. The mats of the five Canadiens team pictures have varying degrees of creasing, with two pinholes (top and bottom) in the mat of the 1937-38 picture, along with a glue stain, while one pinhole is spotted at the top of the mat of the ’39-40 picture. Maroons team pictures include ’34-35 (slight warping) and ’37-38 which are better than the Habs and similar to the ’36 Canadian Olympic team, with trimming to the right side of the mat of the ’36-37 Maroons pic. The backing on which the Howie Morenz photo is glued is G, with light creases, corner wear and quarter-size paper loss on the reverse, while a two-inch crease is spotted in the Joliat backing.
