HOFers Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito are among the signatures on Vic Hadfield’s multi-signed game-used stick featured in this lot of seven early-1970s wood sticks used by players from a variety of NHL teams. Hadfield and goalie Gilles Villemure make it two New York Rangers sticks included along with twigs from Garry Unger of the St. Louis Blues, Steve Cardwell of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dick Redmond of the Chicago Black Hawks and Gerry Meehan of the Buffalo Sabres.
“Villemure” is stamped on the shaft of Gilles’ 1972-73 Rangers Northland Custom Pro game-used stick with the date “2/3/73” handwritten in red on the shaft. Villemure’s No. “30” is handwritten on the upper shaft below his white tape job on the knob. Gilles’ original tape jobs remain on the paddle and on the blade, which is cracked towards the front;
HOFers Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito are among the nine or so autographs on either side of the shaft of Hadfield’s gamer that is also signed by the likes of Bruins Johnston, Awrey and O’Reilly. Vic placed a dedicated red ink autograph on the shaft. “Hadfield 11” is stamped on the shaft of Vic’s 1972-73 Rangers Sher-Wood game-used stick with his original tape job on the knob. Tape was removed from the blade, which is chipped and missing a portion along the top edge. The date “12/14/72” is handwritten on the shaft;
Unger’s 1972-73 St. Louis Blues Sher-Wood game-used stick has “7 G Unger” stamped on the shaft below his ribbed white tape job on the knob. Garry’s original white tape job remains on the toe of the blade and the date “3/1/73” is handwritten in red marker high on the back of the shaft. “12 Feb 73” date stamp sits low on the back of the shaft. What may have been a dedicated autograph is smudged;
“15 G Meehan” is stamped on the shaft of Gerry’s 1972-73 Buffalo Sabres Victoriaville Pro game-used stick, which retains his original tape jobs on the knob and blade. The date “3/25/73” is handwritten in red marker on the front of the shaft;
“Cardwell” is stamped on the front of the shaft of Steve’s 1971-72 Pittsburgh Penguins Dominion Deluxe Pro game-used stick, which retains his original tape jobs on the knob and blade. “Pittsburgh Penguins” graphics are printed on both sides of the shaft and the date “2/12/72” is handwritten in red marker on the shaft. There are some 14 Penguins autographs on the shaft including Hextall, McCreary, Apps, Schinkel, Shack, Rupp, Edestrand and Fonteyne, among others;
“Redmond” in factory graphics is printed on both sides of the shaft of Dick’s 1973-74 Chicago Black Hawks Louisville Slugger game-used stick. Redmond’s original tape job remains on the knob and the cracked blade had its tape job removed. Number “15” is handwritten below the knob and “Playoffs 4/28/74” is handwritten in pencil on the front of the shaft;
“Sterling 14” is stamped on the shaft of a Sher-Wood stick with original tape jobs on the knob and blade. The date “2/6/72” is handwritten in pencil on two sides of the shaft.
