Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Some of the great names in Minnesota North Stars history are featured here in this lot of three 1970s game-used sticks. The late Jean-Paul Parise’s gamer is included here along with sticks used by North Stars forward Murray Oliver and goalie Cesare Maniago sticks from the Next Six franchise of the 1967 NHL expansion that doubled the league in size from six teams to a dozen. Parise, a member of Team Canada 1972 and the father of American all-star Zach Parise, has his surname stamped on the shaft of his Northland Custom Pro gamer with yellow, white, green and black stripes low on the shaft. JP’s original tape jobs remain on the blade and knob of this beauty with A&B Sporting Goods stamps on both sides of the shaft. There are 10 autographs, including Parise and the likes of deceased HOFer Gump Worsley, Danny Grant, Dean Prentice and Ted Hampson on one side, while HOFer Phil Esposito placed a big bold black marker autograph among the three signatures on the other side of the shaft. The date “3/19/72” is handwritten in red marker on the top of the shaft. “Oliver 12” is stamped on the shaft of Murray’s Sher-Wood gamer that also has the “3/19/72” date handwritten on the shaft. Esposito’s legible autograph is one of two faded signatures on the front of the shaft. There are some 16 autographs on the other side of the shaft, including Worsley and the likes of Oliver, Lou Nanne, JP Parise, Dean Prentice, Dennis Hextall and Ted Harris. Oliver’s tape jobs remain on the knob and blade, which is chipped along the top edge near the toe. Maniago’s tape jobs remain on the knob, paddle and blade of his Northland Custom Pro game-used stick, which has “11/3/74” handwritten in black marker on the top side of the shaft above the cracked handle. Game use includes red goalpost paint transfer on the paddle and the shaft at the level of the “Maniago” factory stamp.
