It’s hard to believe in retrospect that Brett Hull was only drafted 117th overall by Calgary in 1984! But as they say, hindsight is always 20/20. With an elite and distinguished Hall of Fame career, it’s safe to say that in the long run, more than a few general managers were shaking their heads after not drafting Hull. This game-used Sher-Wood Feather-Balanced stick is from Brett Hull’s rookie season! It has its original tape on the blade and knob, the blade though has broken off, but will accompany this Hull rookie era prize. An important date stamp of 17 Nov 1987 also appears on the underside of the shaft.
This Brett Hull Sher-Wood rookie-era stick’s importance, even broken, cannot be overstated. This is one of the first sticks used in the NHL by one of the best players of the modern era! Stamped “Hull” with “16” on the upper shaft, the blade and shaft have their original tape as mentioned, with the blade having broken off about a third of the way down the blade from the heel. Game-use is visible with wear to the edges of the shaft, and as previously mentioned, the important date stamp of 17 Nov 1987 is on the underside, for assured rookie-era use.
