Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
A day most Albertans would sooner forget, August 9th 1988 was the day the unthinkable happened, with the Edmonton Oilers trading Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings. In retrospect, the trade was a blessing to the NHL and its fans, forever cementing a culture of hockey in LA, as well as other American markets. This gorgeous black Los Angeles Kings jersey has been signed by the man responsible for hockey’s growth, Wayne Gretzky. In wonderful condition, the CCM and size 54 tags remain attached to the collar, and the jersey exhibits thick tackle twill numbers and crests, as well as matching NHL crests on the lower outer hem. Wayne has placed a nice and dark black marker signature to the middle section of the first back “9”, and he’s also added his iconic “99”. With captain’s “C” and fight strap in place, this garment is absolutely beautiful. A WGA hologram has also been placed onto the first back “9” for guaranteed authenticity.
