The Montreal Canadiens made it two Stanley Cup triumphs in three years in 1945-46, with this formidable silver-plated miniature Stanley Cup commemorating the season's happy ending. The names of the Punch Line, Durnan, Bouchard, Reardon, O'Connor, Peters, Reay, Chamberlain, Hiller, Harmon, Mosdell, coach Irvin and GM Gorman are among those engraved on the barrel of this shimmering keepsake, produced in the circa 1990s for Elmer Lach by the famous Boffey company. Lach led all Hab scorers in the playoffs with 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists), and his signed letter of authenticity will be included with this gorgeous reminder of the Canadiens' sixth-ever Stanley Cup championship.
After finishing 1-2-3 in league scoring the previous year, Elmer Lach, Maurice Richard and Toe Blake avenged their semi-final playoff defeat at the hands of the Maple Leafs by leading the Canadiens to their third straight regular season title in '45-46 and then came through in the playoffs as Montreal swept the Black Hawks and ousted the Bruins in a hard-fought five-game Cup final. Three of the games required overtime and Blake, like in '44, scored the Cup-winner; it came in a 6-3 win at the Forum. The base of the trophy was signed twice by Elmer Lach and the upper part of the trophy is partially loose from the lower part.
