Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
This dazzling Maple Leaf Gardens 10-karat gold lifetime pass medallion was belatedly presented to Toronto forward Danny Lewicki 16 years after he won the Stanley Cup as a member of the 1950-51 Maple Leafs. "10K" and "Birks" are stamped on the edge of the coin, which measures a shade over one inch in diameter and was originally obtained from Lewicki’s personal collection. "Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club Stanley Cup Winners 1967" reads the text on the maple leaf on the front while "Pass Danny Lewicki World's Champion to Maple Leaf Gardens Any Time" appears on the back, with Lewicki’s name stamped, and Conn Smythe's facsimile signature and "Pres." at the bottom. Comes with Lewicki’s signed LOA.
Lewicki’s LOA dated November 28, 2008 has a handwritten addendum that he has signed separately from his signature on the letter of authenticity. Lewicki states in the addendum that he did not receive a pass when he won the Cup in 1951 and that after badgering the Maple Leafs, Stafford Smythe finally gave him the medallion in 1967.
