From their humble origin in the WHL we have this Vancouver Canucks wool jersey game-worn circa late-1950’s early-1960s. Vintage deep blue tie-neck sweater, it has a Sparling’s Sporting Goods Vancouver tag on the bottom inner seam. With tackle twill front and back numbers as well as team name, the red dyed bands have slightly bled into the white sections in a few spots, and coming from the era where frugality was king, over 30 team repairs are also present on this impressive vintage wool sweater. It should also be noted that according to research done, players who wore #8 in that era are Phil Maloney who wore it in 1957-58 and 1961-62 to 1969-70. He played 1954-55 to 1958-59 and 1961-62 to 1969-70 with the Canucks but we can only confirm he wore the #8 in the years mentioned. Orland Kurtenbach also who wore it in 1960-61, and he played for the Canucks in 1957-58, 1959-60 and 1960-61, but we can only confirm he wore the #8 in the year mentioned.
A number of team repairs are present throughout on this vintage Vancouver Canucks wool jersey including 17 on the front in noticeably lighter coloured wool, another 10 on the left sleeve, mostly relegated to the elbow area, another 10 on the right sleeve and an additional 5 on the back. There are also 2 large unrepaired holes present on the back and upper left sleeve.
