Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Lost for the most part to the annals of time, The American game of roller hockey and it’s closely related cousin ice polo battled ice hockey for pre-eminence during the late 19th and early 20th century. Played with a shorter and rounded-blade stick, a ball instead of a puck was also utilized. Three of the four sticks offered in this antique lot are models that breached that era of development, at a time when modern style hockey sticks were completely taking over south of the border. These transitional style sticks, all marked “No. 40”, are appropriately 40” from the top of the shaft to where the blades start to bend. All three have different lies, (The lie on a hockey stick is the angle that the shaft sits at when the blade is placed flat on the ground) and all three are in solid uncracked condition. The remaining stick in this lot is a child’s one-piece Record model made by Lund, most likely during the late teens to early 20s. A portion of its paper label remains, and it too is in solid condition with just honest wear from use to note. A must have for any true antique hockey stick collection.
