Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Figural and decorative hockey pieces from the 1920’s and earlier are extremely scarce, especially ones made with a utilitarian purpose. This pair of hockey stick stands includes one with a mounted trophy, and one that was made to be used as an ashtray. Just under 36” in height, the larger of the two stands features a mounted 10” trophy, which sits upon a base that’s balanced on four mini 2-piece hockey sticks with a wooden puck used for bracing. The trophy is engraved with “Gordon McLaren Trophy”, “Hamilton Technical School” and “Sr. Athletic Championship”. The back features a list of winners and the year they were award it from 1922-1927. The trophy shows usual wear and tarnish, with the top rim having lost its circular shape over time. The ashtray stand measures approx. 27” in height and features a small mounted stick on top. Both items are in very good condition with great patina, and each has wear commensurate with their former use and display.
