Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
Wool cardigans issued to members of sports teams were extremely popular throughout the early to mid-20th century. This pair of cardigans are pleasing examples from the 1940s. First we have Carl Cirullo’s 1948-49 Spokane Flyers wool cardigan. With Athletic Supply Company tagging in the collar as well as chain stitched “C Cirullo”, this sweater is in gorgeous condition. Crests affixed to this garment include a felt chain-stitched Spokane Flyers crest, with an additional WIHL ’48-’49 patch over the right pocket. A beautiful Canada/USA crest also sits on the right sleeve, with just a few small holes mentioned only for accuracy. The second wool cardigan available in this lot is from the Boston University Terriers and it most likely dates from the late 1940s. Also in gorgeous condition, with a large felt BU crest over the left breast, and Tim McAuliffe and size 40 tagging in the collar. The Terriers have numerous varsity athletic teams, including hockey, and the cardigan can be from a number of those sports.
