As goal equipment evolved throughout the mid part of the 20th century, it was the blocker and glove that really saw immense changes. From the first “baseball-style” glove with added wrist protection worn by Emile “The Cat” Francis, to the outer felt-padded blockers of the 1930s and ‘40s, most modern goalies wouldn’t recognize these evolutionary models. We have here an unmatched pair from slightly different time periods. The blocker, most likely of late-1940s early-1950s vintage was made by WinnWell. It’s made in the “bear paw” style with thick outer felt padding, common on models from this era. It is in very good condition, with some fading to the stampings as well as some fabric rips/separation at the tip of the fingers. The trapper, made by Bourdon dates to a later time period, most likely the mid-to-late-1970s. It has some rips and fabric loss, especially to the wrist support. Interestingly, the trapper also has a feature seldom seen on vintage gloves in the form of a large area of padding that has been added or placed, from the top of the thumb area right to the top of the wrist protector. A seldom seen pair, perfect for the vintage equipment collector.
