Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
The United States claimed the first of its two Olympic men’s hockey gold medals on home ice in Squaw Valley, California in 1960. This original Official Daily Program from the VIII Olympic Winter Games is dated February 24, 1960 with a face value of 50 cents. The 7” x 4 3/4" booklet has blue ballpoint results notations for the men’s special slalom on Pages 11-13 (mostly on the first page). The ice hockey portion has the day’s medal round schedule at Blyth Ice Arena on Page 14 showing a 1 pm game between U.S.A. and Germany (USA won 9-1), a 3:30 pm game between the U.S.S.R. and Sweden (a 2-2 tie), and a 6 pm game between Canada and Czechoslovakia (Canada won 4-0). The team rosters are displayed on Page 15. The program has a vertical fold crease and a blue pen mark on the area map on the back cover, and is otherwise wonderfully preserved for a 55-year-old piece of Winter Olympic history.
