Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

This 1991-92 Phil Sykes Winnipeg Jets game-worn jersey was worn during his last season and it's special for a few reasons. First, this season was the 75th anniversary for the NHL, and the jersey sports the large "75" patch over the right breast. Second, another important patch can be found over the left shoulder, the "Goal for Kids" patch. There's a lot of game use to note on this home-white (at the time anyway!) jersey, including a number of puck and stick marks. Correct Maska tagging appears in the collar, as well as a size 52 tag.
Winnipeg has always shared a close relationship with the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, through both proximity and a deep passion for hockey. Many Peggers over the years have suited up for the iconic green, so it's fitting that Phil Sykes, who won NCAA championships with the Sioux in both 1980 and 1982 respectively, ended his career with the Winnipeg Jets. The Winnipeg Jets Goals For Kids Foundation program was started in the 1987-88 season and continuing until the team re-located in 1995-96, over 1.6 million dollars was raised and donated to local Manitoba children's charities. Very special indeed.
