Recently discovered in Canada where they were issued back in the day, these World Wide Gum cards were produced in far less quantities than their American (Goudey) counterparts and are being offered to the hobby for the first time. The group is led by famous heavy hitters Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, with the #80 Ruth card and 55-Gehrig both in attractive crease-free VG-EX condition, with the former possibly a tad higher in the eyes of some and a very small stain in the bottom border of the latter, beneath the “B”, to mention. Other keys include #1-Bengough at VG+, 19-Dickey at VG-EX and 85-Foxx at VG+. We then count 33 crease-free cards which fall into the VG-EX, VG-EX+ and EX grades, including 7-Lyons, 23-Cuyler, 31-Lazzeri, 35-Simmons, 42-Collins, 47-Manush and 84-Berg. In the VG to VG+ range are 21 examples, the most notable being 22-Traynor, 49-Frisch, 54-Faber and 74-Durocher. Lesser lights completing are in the F-G+ realm and total 10, with 2-Vance, 20-Terry and 25-Waner among them. The backs of the V353 cards can be found with bilingual write-ups (French and then English) or with text just in English. All of the cards offered here have bilingual backs. Presenting hobbyists with a wonderful opportunity, these colorful blasts from the past offer numerous possibilities. Not present and required for a complete set are #s 29, 41, 48, 56-58, 60-65, 67, 69-72, 78, 83, 86-89 and 92-94.
