Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
You always remember your first time, and Jacques Lemaire certainly has fond memories of his first Stanley Cup win with the 1967-68 Montreal Canadiens. Lemaire capped his rookie season with the first of eight Stanley Cup wins he would experience during his 13-year Hall of Fame career, contributing seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 13 playoff games as the Habs roared through the playoffs in one game over the minimum. Montreal swept aside Bobby Orr’s budding Big, Bad Bruins in the quarter-finals before disposing of the Black Hawks in five games in the semi-finals. The expansion St. Louis Blues put up a fight in their first of three straight finals appearances, but ultimately proved no match for Jean Beliveau’s Canadiens, who swept four straight one-goal games, two of which were decided in overtime, to give legendary coach Toe Blake his eighth and final Cup win, and Lemaire his first. It was the year of Lemaire’s wedding so this championship ring was very special to Jacques and his wife. A golden image of hockey's ultimate prize appears on a red stone here, with "World Hockey Champions" encircling it. The right shank features "Lemaire" engraved on a banner above a raised image of the Canadiens' famed "CH" logo. A raised gold NHL shield logo appears on the left shank, which features "1967-68" engraved on a banner above it. “14K” is stamped inside the size 6 band of this magnificent creation, which weighs approximately 19 grams and is wonderfully preserved with surface scratches and light smoothing that is mostly apparent on the “68” in the year banner on the left shank. Comes with Jacques Lemaire’s signed LOA, an additional LOA and a signed dedicated photo of Lemaire holding this ring.
