Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
The WHA got off the ground in 1972-73 and one of the original franchises, the Ottawa Nationals, would play just one season in Ottawa, 1972-73, before transferring to Toronto to become the Toros. It was during that first and last season in Canada’s capital that this red practice jersey was worn and which has “Ottawa Nationals” screened-on in white, while number “34”, which shows some red color bleeding and some staining, has been sewn on the back. No size tag is present but would be roughly equal to a size 44 jersey by today's standards. The jersey exhibits a few small unrepaired holes otherwise remains in nice condition. The Toros, who took over from the Nationals, lasted three seasons in Toronto before moving south to Birmingham, where the team survived for another three seasons. It all came to an end when their application to join the NHL was denied.
