Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

Fantastic circa 1970 Detroit Red Wings game-worn No. 2 jersey is from the personal collection of the late Gary Bergman. The alternate captain’s "A" is sewn on the right breast in red twill on the longtime Hockeytown defenseman’s gamer, which Bergman signed in bold black marker on the upper front between the red knit crew neck collar and the Winged Wheel team crest featuring elaborately detailed white thread embroidery sewn on a red twill patch. No. 2 on the back is sewn on red twill, while the sleeves feature sewn-on white twill numbers. Olympic tagging sits in the back of the neck along with a frayed “Size” flag tag that no longer displays the number at the bottom. We measured this classic white Red Wings game-worn jersey out to about a size 50. There is evidence of a former tag on the inside tail, which was most likely a General Athletic tag. There is a big board burn with lots of red paint transfer on the front of the right shoulder. More game wear includes black marks on the back of the right sleeve, board burns on the left sleeve, a team repair above the right sleeve cuff and another sewing fix on the right rear tail, a board burn with red paint transfer inside the rear tail. There is a bit of blue paint transfer in the middle of a very faint and light round stain below the 2 on the back. Comes with an LOA from the Bergman family.
