The Canadian passport the late Gary Bergman used to travel to and from Europe for the 1972 Canada-Russia series is featured in this collection of Summit Series memorabilia from the longtime NHL defenseman’s personal collection. Bergman has signed the passport, issued in Toronto on August 17, 1972 and good for five years. Bergman’s two personal Team Canada 1972 scrapbooks are filled with Canada-Russia Series newspaper clippings, a few photos and two programs, and Ontario Premier William Davis signed Bergman’s provincial certificate recognizing his selection to Team Canada 1972. A small Russian samovar dated 1972 is among the rest of the items to be discovered in this unique lot that comes with an LOA from the Bergman family.
Bergman’s passport valid from Aug. 1972 to Aug. 1977 has his 1972 Sweden arrival and departure stamps, and his 1972 Czechoslovakia arrival and departure stamps prior to and following Team Canada’s trip to the Soviet Union;
The 1972 Province of Ontario certificate for being chosen as part of Team Canada team signed by Ontario Premier William Davis measures 14” x 8 1/2" and is displayed on a 15 1/2" x 10” plaque;
Bergman’s two personal scrapbooks for the '72 Series with newspaper clippings and some photos, Volume 1 is 20 pages and includes two 10x8 photos of Gary and Jane Bergman, and Volume 2 is 22 pages and includes a 6 1/2" x 9 1/4" Tass Soviet wirephoto of Bergman signing autographs in Moscow with a caption on the reverse, Bergman’s invitation from the Canadian ambassador to Sweden for a reception at the Embassy in Stockholm, two 8x10 photos of Jane Bergman with fellow Team Canada member wives, a 1972 Canada-Russia Series Moscow games official TV program, and a Team Canada 1972 vs. Sweden program;
Vintage Toronto Star 24 1/2" x 19 1/2"broadside of the Friday, September 29, 1972 Henderson goal photo front cover page, which has creases, folds and a few tears;
Bergman’s 14” x 11” wood plaque for a Team Canada 1972 advertisement in a Russian newspaper;
a 1972 Russian book about Moscow hosting the 1980 Olympics;
(2) two Russian CCCP pennants;
a Russian samovar dated 1972 on bottom stands about 5” tall and was most likely obtained or received as a gift in Russia during the '72 Series.
