Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
Team Canada 1972 was a clear-cut choice as Canada's "Team of the Century" in a poll conducted by the Canadian Press. Defenseman Gary Bergman was too ill to attend the November 2000 unveiling of the historic monument dedicated to the 1972 Summit Series victors at the Hockey Hall of Fame when this award was presented to members of the team. This handsome 13" high trophy is from the personal collection of the Red Wings great, who passed away at the age of 62 on December 8, 2000. Attractive and substantial marble-base award features English and French plaques on either side of the award, which was presented by the Royal Canadian Mint. This seldom-offered trophy is in gorgeous near mint condition and will be accompanied by an LOA from the Bergman family.
Paul Henderson’s Game 8 game-winning goal is depicted on the face of the silver dollar set in the middle of the 6” tall maple leaf atop the award. One side of the 7 1/2" tall marble base has a Bergman’s name and jersey No. 2 and English description of the award, and the other side has the same in a French description.
