Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
You were a pretty big deal back in the day if you were the original recipient of this distinctive 1950 Christmas card sent from the occupants of Buckingham Palace. The gorgeous fountain pen ink signatures of King George VI, who died in 1952, and his wife, Queen Elizabeth (d. 2002), sit inside the card below the printed “With the Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year” with “1951” handwritten in black fountain pen ink. Featuring an 8 1/2” x 6 1/2" color picture of “Buckingham Palace” in “Spring 1950” on the inside right, this treasured card measures a shade under 10” x 8” with several fountain pen ink blots on the lower portion of the cover that displays a gilded crown at the top. Comes with a JSA LOA.
King George VI, who was the father of Queen Elizabeth II, was the subject of the feature film “The King’s Speech.” The color of the ink for the handwritten new year is very similar to the King’s “George R.” signature, while the future Queen Mum’s “Elizabeth R.” signature is in a slightly darker black ink.
