Defenseman Gord Wappel's 1979-80 Flames red mesh game-worn road jersey is from the franchise’s final season in Atlanta before it was relocated to Calgary. Wappel played two regular season games and two more in the playoffs with Atlanta, and a previous sale of this jersey mentioned he wore it in the playoffs. There is evidence of a former nameplate and the jersey was also possibly worn in 1979-80 by two others who also wore No. 24 that season. This gamer was also possibly worn by Harold Phillipoff in 1978-79. Russell size XL tagging remains in the back of the neck. Solid game wear shows in three team repairs on the right sleeve, green paint transfer and board burns on the left sleeve, and big black stick marks on the front. Comes with an LOA.
There is another big black mark on the upper left back, and more board burns on the tails. This Atlanta Flames game-worn jersey has rubberized accent stripes at the waist and elbows and rubberized number 24 on the back and both sleeves, along with a fight strap featuring a leatherette loop.
The jersey may also have been worn in 1979-80 by Serge Beaudoin, who played three games, and/or Brad Smith, who played four.
