Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
Originally competing in the Western Hockey League, the Phoenix Roadrunners eventually joined the renegade WHA with most of their WHL roster intact in 1974. They enjoyed some relative success in their inaugural season losing to the Nordiques in that year’s quarterfinals. This first-year Roadrunners mesh jersey was game-worn by Bob Mowat, as evidenced by the 1974-75 team picture showing him wearing #18. There is no damage to note, other than some fading/loss to the screened on white lower band front and back, to the numbers on the sleeves, and to the bottom section of the 8 on back. A few errant white streaks and black marks are present, with a 1 inch slit visible half way down the left sleeve. There are also two team repairs on the lower section of the right sleeve. Matching screened-on blue roadrunners grace each shoulder, and a Champion size 46 tag is still firmly attached to the collar. The nameplate has been removed, and the fight strap has been cut off at the top. A nice 70's era mesh jersey from a team that only competed in the WHA for 3 seasons.
