Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
This rare model of Nike graphite two-piece stick used by Brett Hull is the one the Golden Brett used to score his 496th NHL goal on November 27, 1996. Hull scored the goal in a 3-2 win against Anaheim and the details are handwritten on a strip of white tape on the bottom of the essentially bare graphite shaft of this two-piece gamer. Hull’s original tape jobs remain on the Christian wood blade insert and on the knob of the shaft, which has no Nike graphics. The front of the shaft has a sandpaper-like texture with “This End Up” and “This End Down” notations handwritten in silver paint pen at the top and bottom of the shaft. This rare model of Nike stick very briefly used by the Golden Brett comes with Brett Hull’s signed LOA.
“#496 Anh 2 St. Louis 3 Nov 27/96 Courtnall Turgeon” reads the blue marker notation on the strip of white hockey tape applied to the bottom of the shaft. The white tape job on the knob displays red and blue paint transfer.
