HOF defenseman Chris Chelios stepped into the Montreal Canadiens lineup as a rookie defenseman almost straight from playing for Team USA at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. Chelly wore this photo-matched Habs red road gamer with more than 50 team repairs throughout the 1984 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the Battle of Quebec series against the Nordiques, and on into the following season like other jerseys from this set, which were used in the playoffs and then in the 1984-85 season. Flag tag in the neck has what appears to be a faint size “54” and a customized garter style fight strap sits inside the back where the other fight strap was cut off. The jersey is photo-matched to the 1983-84 playoffs and the 1984-85 regular season specifically by the angle of the lower part of the 2 on the left sleeve, as well as by the placement of the team crest in correlation with the white and blue bands and the uneven part of the white band in the collar. More game wear shows in black marks on the front, including a diagonal mark through the upper portion of the red, white and blue triple twill CH crest sewn on the front.

photo-matched to the 1983-84 playoffs photo with Steve Penney by the angle of the lower part of the 2 on the left sleeve, the uneven part of the white band in the collar, and the 4 on the left sleeve placed slightly higher than the number on the right sleeve;
photo-matched to the 1984-85 photo with Kirk Muller by the angle of the lower part of the 2 on the left sleeve, and the placement of the team crest in correlation with the white and blue bands;
photo-matched to the 1984-85 photo by the placement of the team crest in correlation with the white and blue bands.
This game-worn jersey originally would have had a CCM patch on the hem but that they were very lightly sewn during the first few years and as either fallen off or was taken off the jersey.
