Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2015
A few shockers in this wonderful group of pinback buttons are led by one heralding the Hamilton Tigers as “Champions 1903-4-5-6”. World’s Champion Bobbie Kerr, who won gold (200 metres) and bronze (100m) at the 1908 Olympics in London is also featured on a 1-1/4” in diameter pin, as are 1950s’ Montreal Alouette stars Herb Trawick and “Virg” Wagner, the latter with red and white ribbons. An ancient-looking 3-1/2” Calgary Stampeders button has 8” ribbons, while completing are two swell circa-1950s Alouettes pins, a vintage Eskimos pin and two big Ti-Cats pinbacks.
The early Tigers pin also promotes “The Times” and has a paper insert in its back revealing that it was made by Woodburn Sons of Montreal. A metal football adorns one Alouettes pin while a football-shaped pin reads “Alouette Ladies’ Quarterback Club.” Years in the making, this collection is in nice collectible condition and should dazzle Canadian football aficionados.
