Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
From his sophomore campaign where he eclipsed the previous single-season points record scoring 164, Wayne Gretzky would secure his second Hart Memorial Trophy in 1980-81, with five assists scored in a postseason game vs the Canadiens helping to add to his growing legend. This signed stick was used by the legendary superstar during his Art Ross and Hart Memorial-winning season of 1980-81. A Titan TPM model in solid white with red accents/identifiers, “W. Gretzky” appears stamped in red over the upper shaft and is heavily faded, with an equally faded and handwritten “99” placed directly above. The original black tape is in place on the blade (a few strands are now missing), with well-worn white tape over the handle and knob and “99” again handwritten over the lower shaft.
Wayne has signed just above the front side heel section in pencil, with the signature remaining dark, with a bit of loss near the end of the signature. The stick exhibits great use, with wear to the taped section of blade along with a few marks to the blade and lower shaft. There is also some surface wear to the graphics over the shaft, with red paint transfer over the lower shaft.
