Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The youngest winner of the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender as an 18-year-old rookie in 1984, Tom Barasso is the youngest NHL netminder to ever be awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as well. The Boston native also backstopped the Pittsburgh Penguins to a pair of consecutive Stanley Cup championships, in 1991 and 1992. Hailing from his successful time with the Pens in the early-to-mid-1990s, we have a wonderful group of equipment used by Barrasso including a Brown model blocker and Vic model glove from circa 1990-91, along with a pair of sticks used circa 1994-96. There is also a pair of Bauer 100 model skates that were worn during the 1990s.
The left-handed Brown blocker is in solid white with a cloth patch over the face, along with the original lacing intact. Numerous black marks litter the face, with the palm free of any unsightly wear or damage. The Vic glove has a large “Custom Pro Vic by Pete Smith” patch over the wrist guard, with most of the original lacing intact. Sporting heavy use with numerous marks across the pocket, the glove is slightly discoloured with the material somewhat “sticky”. Next, the skates are Bauer 100 Super Feet III models with “Barrasso” handwritten along the underside of each skate, with tape added along each front blade stem. Moderate to heavy use is exhibited on the skates, with a number of cuts and scrapes, especially over the toe sections. Lastly, the sticks are Sher-Wood and KOHO models with “Barrasso” over the upper shafts, with “35” handwritten along the top of the Sher-Wood example. Both sticks have the original white tape over the blade and white-over-black on the knob, with a small cross also handwritten along the top of the Sher-Wood stick. Great use is exhibited on the pair, with heavier wear on the Sher-Wood example, with the blade also cracked beneath the tape.
