Between the now-retired No. 1 and the displayed and covered patches on the right breast, there’s a lot to talk about on this Montreal Canadiens game-worn jersey from the early 1990s. It was worn by goalie Rollie Melanson in 1991-92 after he was acquired from the New Jersey Devils at the start of the season. At that point the jersey displayed the NHL 75th anniversary patch that was worn throughout the league that season. Melanson’s gamer was recycled for and used by goalie Frederic Chabot in training camp and preseason prior to the 1992-93 season. Montreal hosted the All-Star game that season and a red fabric patch was sewn over the NHL 75 patch so that the 1993 All-Star Game patch could be displayed on it. There is evidence of a former nameplate, one that was about 2” larger on each side, the appropriate size for a Melanson nameplate. Maska and size 54 flag tags are inside the collar, there is a small remnant of the cut fight strap, and the CCM and NHL shield logos are embroidered on the right rear hem. Game wear includes black marks on the left sleeve, front tail, and small black marks on the front of the upper right sleeve. There are two team repairs, including a small circular sewing fix just above the team’s crest and another one just below the blue stripe on the left lower tail, just above the hemline. The Canadiens retired No. 1 in honor of Hall of Famer Jacques Plante on Oct. 7, 1995. Comes with a Canadiens LOA.
