Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

There are only seven members of the NHL’s elite 700-goal club, and Brett Hull reached that milestone faster than anyone other than Wayne Gretzky. Hull and Red Wings teammates Sergei Fedorov and Pavel Datsyuk are pictured displaying this photo-matched 700th goal puck in a dressing room shot after the Golden Brett scored it in his 1,157th game on February 10, 2003. The particular writing of the black marker “700” and the exact placement on the milestone goal puck of the strip of white hockey tape it is written on are matched to the photo. This one-of-a-kind piece of hockey history comes with Brett Hull’s signed LOA, as well as an official NHL duplicate of the score sheet with Hull’s goal noted in the second period and two Detroit newspapers chronicling the 700th goal.
The bold black marker of the “700” handwritten on the tape has since bled and produced a grey outline of the digits, but the dark black portion of each number is a perfect match to the photo. The score sheet has a few light creases and no tears.
Hull joined Gordie Howe, Phil Esposito, Marcel Dionne, Wayne Gretkzy and Mike Gartner in the 700-goal club with his 21st goal of the 2002-03 season. The Golden Brett drove a one-timer from the left side under Evgeni Nabokov’s pads at 16:54 of the second period in Detroit’s 5-4 win against the San Jose Sharks before a capacity crowd of 20,058 at Joe Louis Arena.
FYI, Hull scored his 700th goal six days after Jaromir Jagr of the Washington Capitals scored his 500th goal. Jagr was playing for the New Jersey Devils when he became the seventh member of the 700-goal club on March 1, 2014.
