Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Dandy array of Canadiens goodies here includes team-issued postcard ensembles from 1975-76 (20) and ’80-81 (29), while two infrequently-seen uncut postcard sheets are from circa-1969. Pinback buttons from the early-‘70s total 20, with the Mahovlich brothers, Lafleur and Ruel among the most notable and duplication amongst the rest. Parts of three Chex Cereal boxes picture handsome Jean Beliveau and the famous team captain is also included in 12 paper inserts which were designed for “Volpe” plastic tumblers offered through a Steinberg’s grocery story promotion in 1965. Almost unheard of in this form, they measure 5-1/2” by 9” and feature riveting artwork. Another oddity is an 8-1/2” by 11” affair on thin card stock featuring a likeness of Rocket Richard and informing retailers of Molson’s Export Ale how the depicted signs are helping their sales! A few other items and further details, including the condition lowdown, are available on our website.
Completing the stash are “Steinberg” postcards from ’82-83, a Nesbitt’s bottle cap featuring Beliveau, a Maurice Richard depiction offered by The Equitable Life Insurance Society and a (creased) pamphlet put out by Neilson’s in the 1960s and picturing/listing Canadiens Hall of Fame members. Meanwhile, the uncut postcard sheets are the same as far as player content goes and both include multiple creases. Other than a one-inch crease in the Beliveau example, the Steinberg glass inserts show very little handling/wear, while moderate wear is spotted on the majority of the pinback buttons. Joining the aforementioned are two each of Beliveau, Cournoyer, Richard, Lemaire, Ferguson and JC Tremblay, as well as singles of Vachon, Savard, Laperriere and Harper. Two of three cereal box pieces are crease-free, with light peripheral creasing in the smallest. All-in-all, an intriguing lot for Habs maniacs to consider.
